ENERGY STAR Benchmarking helps you answer these important questions. Put simply, benchmarking is the process of comparing your energy performance to something similar. “Something similar” might be internal, like performance at the same time last year. Energy use in commercial buildings accounts for 17 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions at a cost of more than $100 billion per year.
